About Rohnert Park, CA From the Web…
“The people who live in the City of Rohnert Park today are very different from the first land owners in this part of the Santa Rosa Valley. The original residents, a small tribe of Indians, lived in a village called Kotate, which was located to the north of today’s City. They called the nearby rolling hills Lomas de kotate, and called the peak Mt. Kotate. Their leader was Chief Kotate. Little else is known about the tribe, the chief, or about the meaning of the word “Kotate.”
Rohnert Park is exactly halfway between the attractive vintage river town of Petaluma and the county seat of Santa Rosa. This location places the city in the middle of a 16-mile area of the largest population and retail corridor in the county.
